Why I will Never Be Vegan
I applaud veganism, the act of not eating/using animal products as a protest for animal welfare.
If I could go vegan I definitely would! The only problem is that I am autistic AF and have always struggled with my diet, some may call it ARFID but I just call it being a funny bugger. The thing is I am repulsed by food I haven't tried, but I can't try it due to that reason. Ever since I was a toddler and I developed this attitude towards food my diet consists of chicken, pork, some beef, potato, and sweets. The only veg I eat is potato and I can't stand the texture of fruit, that is something I have tried but was instantly repulsed, I also tired kelp because my hamsters were trying it and honestly it tasted like garden weeds!!
If I stopped eating meat, my health would deteriorate as I wouldn't be getting my correct nutritional needs, I currently take vitamins but they aren't enough for my body. However I don't eat dairy, only vegan substitutes as I don't believe in it, animals milk is produced for their offspring, not for humans, the milk we are supposed to drink is human but that's a little gross in my opinion so I drink almond milk.
I have watched countless documentaries on slaughter houses in the UK to check the welfare standards, and I am at peace knowing that the standards have come a long way thanks to Temple Grandin. The animals are mostly stunned very quickly into sedation before they are killed so that they don't know what is happening, and before being slaughtered the staff try to make the animals and their environment as relaxed as possible.
I have been fighting with RSPCA Assured to get them to look into their farms as last year I found that some RSPCA Assured approved farms had very poor animal welfare, this can be resolved with more regular inspections and higher penalties for those not keeping up to the standards, because when I buy my meat I research the producer and will only buy my meat if the welfare standards are high and I know that my food had a great life before it ended up on the store shelves.
I will probably make a post on the RSPCA Assured stuff and show you my email to and from them, I will put a content warning as I will be showing the undercover videos also that I found.
Even though I will never be a vegan, I will fight for the happiness of animals for the rest of my life, we are NOT above them, we are EQUAL!
The picture on this post is Temple Grandin, she is a role model to all of us neurodivergents out there showing that no matter what you suffer with, you can still change the lives of animals!
